Relatively new to the ACP and Ganesh Himal Trading family is Ishwor Maharjan and his group of artisans.  Ishwor comes from a family of traditional weavers.  He started learning the art of traditional Nepali weaving and loom making at the age of 12 by watching and working alongside his father and grandfather; both traditional weavers.  In 1991, at the age of 25, Ishwor formed his own weaving group with 8 weavers that are especially skilled in weaving scarves and blankets in intricate designs.

In 2012, in an effort to provide more work for his artisan group, Ishwor sought out a partnership with ACP.  Through that partnership he sought more job opportunities and skills training for his group of weavers.  ACP was eager to work with such a committed individual and has been able to provide enough work and training in the short span of time they have been working together to allow Ishwor to expand his group from 8 to 13.

Now at the age of 50 Ishwor is still committed to the preservation of traditional weaving and has a keen interest in learning new skills and techniques.  He has traveled to India to learn complex jacquard weave designs and has also learned how to build jacquard weave looms.  Now he offers new training to his group and to artisans outside of his group as well.  Revita Sreshtra of ACP says he is one of the most devoted artisans and they admire his determination to keep the traditional skills of hand weaving alive amidst the modern era and competition of machine woven fabrics.[/fusion_text][fusion_title size=”1″ content_align=”left” style_type=”default” sep_color=”” margin_top=”” margin_bottom=”” class=”” id=””]Learn More about ACP[/fusion_title][/fusion_builder_column][fusion_builder_column type=”1_3″ last=”no” spacing=”yes” center_content=”no” hide_on_mobile=”no” background_color=”” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” background_position=”left top” border_position=”all” border_size=”0px” border_color=”” border_style=”” padding=”” margin_top=”” margin_bottom=”” animation_type=”” animation_direction=”” animation_speed=”0.1″ class=”” id=””][fusion_imageframe lightbox=”no” lightbox_image=”” style_type=”none” hover_type=”none” bordercolor=”” bordersize=”0px” borderradius=”0″ stylecolor=”” align=”none” link=”” linktarget=”_self” animation_type=”0″ animation_direction=”down” animation_speed=”0.1″ hide_on_mobile=”no” class=”” id=””] [/fusion_imageframe][/fusion_builder_column][fusion_builder_column type=”2_3″ last=”yes” spacing=”yes” center_content=”no” hide_on_mobile=”no” background_color=”” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” background_position=”left top” border_position=”all” border_size=”0px” border_color=”” border_style=”” padding=”” margin_top=”” margin_bottom=”” animation_type=”” animation_direction=”” animation_speed=”0.1″ class=”” id=””][fusion_text]Ishwar Maharjan’s weaving group is an artisan group that works under The Association for Craft Producers.  ACP  is a fair trade organization that provides design, marketing, management, and technical services to low income, predominantly women, Nepalese craft producers.  Meera Bhatterai  founded ACP in 1984, with a vision to help women gain social mobility by creating a market where they would not be exploited.  Today, women from 15 districts in Nepal have the resources and opportunity to utilize their talent as artisans, become more financially independent, and gain more credibility in their communities.[/fusion_text][fusion_checklist icon=”fa-book” iconcolor=”#ffffff” circle=”” circlecolor=”#dd9933″ size=”18px” class=”” id=””][fusion_li_item icon=””]READ MORE[/fusion_li_item][/fusion_checklist][/fusion_builder_column][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ last=”yes” spacing=”yes” center_content=”no” hide_on_mobile=”no” background_color=”” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” background_position=”left top” border_position=”all” border_size=”0px” border_color=”” border_style=”” padding=”” margin_top=”” margin_bottom=”” animation_type=”” animation_direction=”” animation_speed=”0.1″ class=”” id=””][fusion_title size=”1″ content_align=”left” style_type=”default” sep_color=”” margin_top=”” margin_bottom=”” class=”” id=””]A Few of our Handwoven Products[/fusion_title][fusion_text]
