At Ganesh Himal Trading  we work directly with producer groups to develop unique and beautiful products. The process is long and involved and we take great care to create items that provide maximum benefit to our producers while creating an item that is a great seller for our customers. Step #1: Dyeing the thread

Step 2: Warping

In the village of Kirtipur, Nepal,  Laxmi Maharjan wanted to educate her children and bring them out of poverty.  Since 1984 her hard work and vision have changed her life and the lives of 60 other families in her village.  Starting with 4 traditional women weavers in 1984,  her group has grown to 60 today, making it the largest producer group associated with ACP!  Laxmi’s drive and bravery revived a village by using the traditional weaving skills passed down by their grandmothers.  The income earned by these women has significantly impacted the lives of their children, many of whom have not only gone to school but have gone on to higher education.

Ganesh Himal Trading designs many of our products to incorporate Laxmi’s fabrics and give work to her group.  Yarn dyed at ACP is delivered to her group and spun onto bobbins. Then it takes 2 people about 16 hours to make 250 meters of warp for one loom. Once the warp is wound it is hand threaded through the heddles creating a warp, which is then transferred to a weaver’s home to be used on her loom.  Other bobbins are delivered to the weaver to use in the flying shuttle on her
loom.

Step # 3: Weaving

Once the warp is tied onto the loom, the weavers of Kirtipur can begin to weave. Weaving is done in a woman’€™s spare time when she is not caring for children or her household and is often done on looms that are over 100 years old.  The women use a flying shuttle and it takes approximately 1 hour to weave one meter of cloth. Step #4: Silk Screen Printing

For Ganesh Himal’s newest runners, we added value by using silk screen printed fabric [rather than plain fabric].  The added detail is not only beautiful, but requires the additional work of ACP producers who have no traditional skills.  Unlike the weavers of Kirtipur who learned their skill at a young age from previous generations, these silk screeners were taught their skill by ACP.  Without ACP, these producers would have no means of earning income.  A length of fabric is silk screened and then cut into strips to make the runners.[/fusion_text][/fusion_builder_column][fusion_builder_column type=”2_3″ last=”no” spacing=”yes” center_content=”no” hide_on_mobile=”no” background_color=”” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” background_position=”left top” border_position=”all” border_size=”0px” border_color=”” border_style=”” padding=”” margin_top=”” margin_bottom=”” animation_type=”” animation_direction=”” animation_speed=”0.1″ class=”” id=””][fusion_text]

Step #5: Sewing
