Nhucche grew up in th
e Kathmandu Valley, the son of a traditional farmer. Realizing many women in his community wanted to work but had few opportunities, he sent his uncle’s daughters to knitting school in the early 1980’s. These women became master knitters imparting their skills to other women employed by Nhucche. Most of these women supplemented their family’s income by spinning wool or knitting garments at home on a part-time bases.
