The Executive Director of The Association for Craft Producers Retires
Meera Bhatterai, Executive Director of The Association for Craft Producer (ACP) has retired. Ganesh Himal Trading has been working with Meera for over 38 years. and Denise considers her to be one of her major mentors. Their friendship and work together has been a major influence on Ganesh Himal Trading and Conscious Connections Foundation. We’ll miss her but know she won’t be far away!
The Association for Craft Producers (ACP) is a fair trade organization that provides design, marketing, management, and technical services to low-income, predominantly women, Nepalese craft producers. Meera Bhatterai, founded ACP in 1984, with a vision to pay women directly, teach them how to price their work so as not to be exploited in the market & ultimately give women a greater voice. Today, because of ACP, nearly 1000 women from 15 districts in Nepal have the opportunity to become more financially independent and have gained more credibility in their communities through the production of their crafts.

“It is with mixed feelings that we announce the retirement of Ms. Meera Bhattarai from the post of Executive Director of the Association for Craft Producers, effective from 17 August 2022. ACP was envisioned and established by Ms. Bhattarai in 1984. Throughout her career which spans over 4 decades, Ms. Bhattarai has strived to socially and economically empower artisans. “Economic empowerment is the only way to women empowerment” was what she strongly believed in and lived by. Under her visionary and exemplary leadership, ACP thrived to become a socially oriented commercially viable enterprise.
Ms. Bhattarai served in the Board of Fair Trade Group Nepal as the Founding Chair for almost a decade. She has served in the board of many prestigious organizations, both national and international. Her vision and values, her hard work and dedication have touched the lives of many people and organizations in the Fair Trade and handicraft sector.
Ms. Bhattarai will continue serving as the Board Secretary of ACP. We are fortunate that her support will continue to guide us. We trust she will keep advocating for the promotion of Fair Trade and handicraft industry.
